June 2022 Monthly Round Up

The saying goes older and wiser but I’ve yet to see the truth in that because the day after my birthday I managed to burn my hand by being a complete muppet. But I’m here writing this so that means a) my hand is okay and b) it’s the end of June already! Anyhoo, this month was tough but also fun at times as well and we were bluntly honest with you all this month that burn out can really kick your butt so mind yourself and don’t push yourself too hard. Taking time for yourself is always allowed. Also Pride month may be over but that doesn’t mean you need to be any less proud of who you are. Love is love after all and love will always win. Plus, we are grateful for you for being you and the world is all the better for having you in it. You don’t need to fit into boxes or labels if they don’t suit you, so don’t let anyone force you to.

Enough of all the introductions though, I think it’s time to see what our favourite things were in June! Let’s go!

Book of the Month

E: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Manga by Akira Himekawa. The artwork in these books is stunning and it being my favourite of the Zelda games means it wins on every level.

N: ‘If This Gets Out’ by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich. An important topic with a cheesy setting.

Movies & TV

TV Show Picks

E: Out of all the Asain TV shows I watched and I watched a lot, I think ‘Falling Into Your Smile’ is my favourite.

N: Love Victor, that TV Show has an Iron grip on me this month. I binged watched 3 seasons in quick succession. An honorable shout out goes to Pixar’s newest series Baymax because it is adorable! July is set aside for the new Star Wars TV series and Only Murders In the Building.

Good Movie Recommendation

E: The Adam Project. Ryan Reynolds and Walker Scobell are really just the perfect pair to play the same character at different stages of life because they have both mastered the sassy one liners.

N: Nightmare Alley. A random movie find on Disney+ turned into a surprisingly good watch. 1940’s glamour with a theme I adore. I won’t spoil anything but a solid 4/5

Cheesy Bad Movie Recommendation

E: She’s The Man – A classic but so cheesy at the same time. There are some epic scenes and quotes in the movie though.

N: I sat down and watched The Princess Diaries with my little gang again this month. Arguably it can go into the good and the cheesy movie category but for the famous “I look like a moose’ scene it will forever be one of my guilty pleasures!

Gaming Picks

E: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It’s very much the ‘Niamh’s area of expertise’ Assassin’s game but still very good. I got Odyssey and Origins so I’m not going to complain.

N: I’ve been finishing Spyro. Reliving a childhood favourite has been fun!

Music

Single of the Month

E: Maniac – Stray Kids. Honestly, this song is so catchy! 110% certified banger!

N: ‘Ruin’ Moncrieff. Another of my favourite songs of all time finally came out this month. The stunning vocals in this one leave me in awe everytime I listen to it.

Album/EP of the Month

E: I’m a bit late to the party but Harry’s House does not disappoint. It has some really great tracks and it’s a combination of all the styles that make Harry so great as a musician.

N: Hudson Taylor ‘Searching For Answers’. Hudson Taylor’s new album blew everything previous out of the water from the duo for me. Honest lyrics, incredible vocals and you can tell Alfie and Harry are proud of this body of work.

Favourite Things

Favourite Thing About June?

E: The quietness of June because July is going to be hectic for me so I’m appreciating the calmness that was befor I jump head first into the insanity of July.

N: Very Irish to say but the weather has been amazing! It made working school tour season that little bit easier and made Forest School training that little bit more enjoyable!

Favourite Item of the Month

E: The birthday gift Niamh got me. She knows me better than I know myself and this year she proved it.

N: I did a lot of binge watching a few TV Series towards the end of June thanks to my health so the PS5 wins this month.

Event of the Month

E: Dermot Kennedy in the INEC. We got barrier and I think everyone on stage could see my heart eyes XD

N: Dermot Kennedy, hands down the best gig of June. Still cackling at the fact we ended up at the barrier but he put on a phenomenal show.

Moment of the Month

E: Having an “I am stupid” moment and, as I’m looking at my burnt hand, my brother calm as anything says “well you won’t do that again”. Can you tell my family takes nothing seriously?

N: At an event with my sister and ending up in front of the stage “Don’t you dare move. We’re staying here whether you like it or not”. Stay tuned in to see if we end up on the telly because of it.

Your Quote of the Month

E: “Jesus Christ… his mother, Saint Joseph, the donkey, the saints and all that goes with them” – some people have a real flair for the dramatic XD

N: “Oh God…”

What things you are most excited about for July

E: Well, to be honest, I have no events but I will be back in work for the summer so there’s all the money I’ll be earning so I can go crazy in Amsterdam.

N: The Workshops we are running in work, I cannot wait to see what the kids make of them all. My only music festival of 2022 and being surrounded by some of my friends for my birthday.
