So, with the new year under way, we have glanced into our crystal ball (read as: looked at lots of online lists saying what movies are being released this year) and picked some movies that are guaranteed to be worth a watch in our opinion. Of course, the number of superhero movies about to be unleashed on the world this year is unbelievable but we’ve also included some non-superhero movies as well. So here it is: Our Muchness Guide’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2022!
Moonfall – Feb 4th 2022
The moon’s been knocked out of orbit and sent hurtling towards earth in disaster film Moonfall which is brought to you by the director of ‘Independence Day’, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ and ‘2012’

Death on the Nile – Feb 11th 2022
Master detective Hercule Poirot has returned after ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ and has been summoned to a Nile Cruise which naturally means he’ll be investigating another murder in an exotic location.
Actors include: Kenneth Branagh, Annette Benning, Russell Brand and Letitia Wright.
Uncharted – Feb 18th 2022
Based on Naught Dog’s Uncharted video game series, Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Nate) in a sort of prequel to the games that details with plenty of high octane action sequences how Nate and Victor Sullivan (Sully) came to meet.
Actors include: Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg
The Batman – Mar 3rd 2022
The highly anticipated arrival of the new Caped Crusader includes an appearance by notorious Bat- villain The Riddler with new versions of Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon included.
Actors include: Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell and Andy Serkis
The Lost City – March 25th 2022
Loretta Sage is a reclusive author who writes about exotic places in her books filled with a character named Dash. While on tour to promote her latest novel, Loretta gets kidnapped in the hopes she can help find the Lost City mentioned in her book! It is down to her book cover model Alan to become the hero like the character Dash he portrays. Set to be a rather funny comedy going from the trailer, Niamh is rather excited for this one because Daniel Radcliffe plays a villain again.
Actors include: Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt.
Morbius – Apr 1st 2022
Based on Marvel comic books of the same name, the plot follows Michael Morbius who tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease but inadvertently injects himself with a form of vampirism instead.
Actors include: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Adjona, Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson
Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore – Apr 15th 2022
After four very long years of a wait we are finally going to see what secrets Dumbledore has been hiding. We are both looking forward to seeing if what Rita Seeker published so many years later was true but, most importantly, we cannot wait to see the interactions between all involved. Nothing will be able to compare to Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald but we hope Mads Mikkelson rises to the challenge.

The Northman – Apr 22nd 2022
Based on the ‘History of the Danes’ from the Saxo Grammaticus’ Gesta Danorum, The Northman tells the story of Prince Amleth, who is seeking revenge for the death of his father after witnessing his murder at the hands of his uncle.
Actors include: Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Bjork and Willem Defoe
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent – Apr 22nd 2022
This is Nick Cage acting as…Nick Cage. You read that right. He’s acting as himself. Facing financial ruin, the actor accepts a million dollar invite to a fans birthday party only to find himself recruited by the CIA. Cage must channel his most famous and beloved characters to save himself.
Actors include: Nicholas Cage, Lily Mo Sheen and Pedro Pascal.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – May 6th 2022
The culmination of multiple universe breaking events that occured in Wandavision, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Loki, Dr. Strange has returned for his second outing. Naturally, Marvel are keeping the full plot close to their chests for the moment.
Actors include: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams
Top Gun: Maverick – May 27th 2022
After years of being one of the Navy’s best aviators, Maverick is back. He’s training a squad of graduates for a dangerous upcoming mission when his past comes calling.
Actors include: Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly
Jurassic World: Dominion – Jun 10th 2022
With the return of some of our favourites from the original Jurassic Park movies billed as cast members this time around and the ploy very much kept tightly under wraps, we’re looking forward to another brilliant dino adventure this year.

Lightyear – June 17th 2022
Telling the origin story of everyone’s favourite Space Ranger, we follow Buzz Lightyear’s adventures before he became an action figure that we all fell in love with in Toy Story!

Thor: Love and Thunder – Jul 8th 2022
The fourth instalment starring Thor Odinson and a sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, very little is known about the Taika Waititi directed film but, naturally this is the case for the time being because Marvel love to keep things under wraps.
Actors include: Chris Hemsworth, Karen Gillen, Natalie Portman, Taika Waititi and Matt Damon
Nope – Jul 22nd 2022
Next to nothing is known about Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror movie ‘Nope’ but based on his last two films, we’re excited to see this one to see what Peele thinks up next. Some are even speculating that, with the return of Daniel Kaluuya, this may be a ‘Get Out’ sequel but don’t fall into the sunken place looking for details just yet.

Black Adam – Jul 29th 2022
A spin-off from ‘Shazam!’ that centres around the anti-hero, Black Adam, but if we have Black Adam vs. Dr. Fate we are in for a real treat because all we can say at the moment is that the plot is heavily under wraps like any good superhero movie plot should be.

Don’t Worry Darling – September 23rd 2022
Olivia Wilde’s second feature length movie that she has directed. Set in the 1950’s around a couple who are consumed by a deadly secret. The first trailer is only just over a minute long but it has us intrigued. With its air of danger and cinematic look to match the 50’s, it is sure to be a hit with many cinema goers.
Actors Include: Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Gemma Chan and Chris Pine.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) – Oct 7th 2022
Miles is still spidey-ing but nothing is ever that easy for Spider-Man. Brooklyn’s full time Spider-Man is about to be transported across the Multiverse to join Gwen and even more Spider-People in defeating one hell of a big bad!
Actors include: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld and Oscar Issac.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Nov 11th 2022
With Doctor Doom rumoured to be making an appearance and Ryan Coogler on board for the sequel, many people are looking forward to Wakanda Forever if only to see who will pick up the mantle of Black Panther in place of T’challa after the passing of Chadwick Boseman (RIP) or if the character will be removed rather than recast as Marvel have suggested.

Creed III – Nov 23rd 2022
Not much is known about the third instalment of the Creed series but in early 2020 it was reported that the sports drama movie would be Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut.

Avatar 2 – Dec 16th 2022
After waiting a long time for James Cameron’s sequel to Avatar, it seems that Jake Sully shall return to defend his new home and work with the Neytiri and the Na’vi in order to protect the planet from a familiar threat that has come back to finish the job that was started.

Disenchanted – Undated
Set a few years after Giselle and Robert’s Happily Ever After, Giselle begins to question her happiness and she accidentally turns her own world and Andelasia’s world upside down by wishing her life was the perfect fairy tale after a move to the suburbs introduces the nefarious Malvina Monroe.
Actors include: Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey and Idina Menzel
Knives Out 2 – Undated
Rian Johnson has decided to write and direct an, as of yet, untitled sequel to the whodunit gem, Knives Out. Other than the appearance of Detective Blanc, the movie will have no connection to the original movie.
