September 2021 Monthly Round Up

It’s time again to sum up a month in a few sentences but, before we get to that part, can we just talk about the fact that we were at actual gigs this month? September is a great step towards normal and we’re hoping it continues for the foreseeable future. Though it’s been a quiet month, we’ve been working and planning for the upcoming month of October which if you remember is not only Booktober but also Spooktober. Just like last year, we’re hoping to divide the month; so we’ll be reading and reviewing and also sharing some spookiness for what is one of the best times of the year: Halloween. And to celebrate our entry into Spooky Season, our post picture for this month is something truly terrifying: A Pumpkin Spice Latte! Woooo!!!

But enough of all that for now, it’s time to look at our favourite parts and things in September. Let’s go!

Book of the Month

N: ‘Second Star To The Right’ a Disney Twisted tale which I have started. You’ll hear more about it during Booktober!

E: ‘Go The Distance’ is another Disney Twisted Tale that you’ll hear about during Booktober. We’re actually a bit ahead of schedule this year #GoTeam (N: we? More like just Emma!)

Movie & TV

TV Show Picks

E: ‘Lucifer’ I binge watched all the episodes I’d missed out on and I still love this show. It makes me cry like a baby. Like full on ugly crying.

N: Nine Perfect Strangers. Amazon Prime’s latest original series that is wacky and insane yet; interesting. Still thinking WTF after finishing it but, it was good

Good Movie Recommendation:

E: Shang Chi. It is amazing and doesn’t disappoint when it comes to action but, at the same time, it introduces us to a new set of characters in the ever expanding Marvel universe.

N: Monte Carlo. Emma messaged me saying she had watched it and this made me miss the movie a lot. So… I watched it. Gosh it is fun and just a good movie. (E: Such a good movie)

Cheesy Bad Movie Recommendation:

E: ‘The Perfect Man’ but I will admit Niamh did pick a real cheesefest. So many cheesy movies to pick from this month.

N: Amazon’s newest trainwreck ‘Cinderella’ I don’t know how many time Emma and I looked at each other during this movie and said “what the actual fuck is going on”. Best moment was Idina Menzel’s ‘Material Girl’ moment. And the Fairy “Godmoth-er”

Gaming Picks

E: Honestly, I’ve been trying F1 2021 and I am frustratingly bad at it. I have learned I’m the person on the pitwall, not a driver.

N: Battling my way through the expansion stories of Immortals Fenyx Rising this month. I adore that game!

Music

Single of the Month

E: ‘Burn It All Down’ is the World’s 2021 song for League of Legends and once again League of Legends, Riot Games and, in this case, PVRIS have made an epic inspirational track.

N: Róisín Ó ‘Still Gold’. Róisín truly outdid herself with her latest single. The song is blunt with raw emotions with a catchy chorus.

Album/EP of the Month

E: Since the release of Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version), I’ve dived back into 1989 in a big way and it’s still just as good as I remember.

N: Since I managed to snag tickets to Hudson Taylor in Wexford next month, I have been gravitating towards their album ‘Singing For Strangers’ during the majority of September.

Favourite Things

Favourite Thing About September?

E: That almost normal feeling.

N: Life feeling somewhat normal again for the first time in over a year.

Favourite Item of the Month

E: My McLaren F1 Gulf Hoody. Yes I’m a Red Bull fan but that doesn’t mean I can’t support my second team too. It’s so cozy!

N: My Danny Ric pink hoodie. It’s so soft and adorable!

(McLaren F1 hoodies for the win this month apparently)

Moment of the Month

E: Being at gigs. Just being in a room, enjoying music, that’s my favourite moment.

N: First gig back, Róisín Ó in Monroe’s on 7th of September. Being back at live music was brilliant and emotional!

Your Quote of the Month

E: ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.’ – Winston S. Churchill.

N: ‘Enjoy today. It is one of the “good old days” you will miss in the future!’ – Etta Sawyerr

Three things you are most excited about for October

E: Excitement and the potential for new things to happen but also that there are more gigs and tickets to buy. We can actually start making plans for stuff.

N: Gigs, leaves changing colour and walking throw bundles of fallen leaves; lastly time with friends and family during my time off.
