The F1 Name Association Game!

Well hello there! I know that lately both Niamh and I have talked an awful lot more about Formula 1. However, some of you may not know some of the drivers on the grid and, I (Emma) have decided to try my best to give you a sense of each of their public personalities as I see them on the grid in the best way I know how! Using just one song. Now the songs I choose could be ones that all the fans associate with a driver (looking at you Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz Jr.) or it may be my personal opinion of certain drivers. I’ll provide you with the driver’s name, team and racing number along with the song I’ve associated with them (and maybe a little about why I chose the song too) in the order they currently appear in the F1 Driver’s Championship.

Either way, do take my choices with a pinch of salt but feel free to enjoy the playlist at the very least.

Max Verstappen – Team: RedBull Racing Honda – Number: 33

Fast (Motion) – Saweetie (This is just facts.)

Lewis Hamilton –  Team: Mercedes-AMG Petronas – Number: 44

When I Grow Up – Pussycat Dolls (I’m just going to leave this here and let you take from it what you will)

Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez – Team: RedBull Racing Honda – Number: 11

Happy – Pharrell Williams (This is Checo’s default state at all times and I love him for it.)

Lando Norris – Team: McLaren Racing – Number: 4

Friday (Dopamine Re-Edit) (feat. Mufasa & Hypeman) – Riton (This is one of two possible choices that Lando had sung for a mic check but this one suit his public personality better.)

Charles LeClerc – Team: Scuderia Ferrari – Number: 16

Vogue – Madonna (Charles is full time model and part time F1 driver.)

Valtteri Bottas – Team: Mercedes-AMG Petronas – Number: 77

Lucky – Britney Spears (Well when your team mate gets away with making mistakes and you don’t, this is the kind of song that you get associated with)

Carlos Sainz Jr. – Team: Scuderia Ferrari – Number: 55

Smooth Operator – Sade (Another one that was sung by the driver and picking any other song would be blasphemy.)

Pierre Gasly – Team: Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda – Number: 10

Another Chance – Roger Sanchez (Now that he has been moved to RedBull’s sister team and has been performing more consistently, this song is perfect for him.)

Sebastian Vettel – Team: Aston Martin Cognizant – Number: 5

My Hero – Foo Fighters (After a few resurgent moments a lot of people feel this way about Vettel now. Personally, I never doubted him.)

Daniel Ricciardo – Team: McLaren Racing – Number: 3

Smile – Katy Perry (This guy is another person who seems to be living his best life on the grid and smiling the entire time.)

Fernando Alonso – Team: Alpine-Renault – Number: 14

Renegade Master – Wild Child (‘Nando has returned to the grid after a few years away and is beginning to show some of his previous form.)

Esteban Ocon – Team: Alpine-Renault – Number: 31

Sweets For My Sweet – The Searchers (The sweetest song for an absolute sweetheart)

Lance Stroll – Team: Aston Martin Cognizant – Number: 18

More Than Meets The Eye – DVINES (I think there’s more to Lance Stroll than just daddy’s cash and I for one am looking forward to seeing that.)

Yuki Tsunoda – Team: Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda – Number: 22

Fight Me – Molly Brazy (Despite his diminutive stature, Yuki has earned some fans for his big attitude on the radio and a lot of not so PG language.)

Kimi Raikkonen – Team: Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen – Number: 7

I Love It – Icona Pop (Kimi can literally give no less f*cks. He does not care about anything except his drink in his car.)

Antonio Giovinazzi – Team: Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen – Number: 99

Jesus Walks – Kanye West (People have dubbed Antonio as Italian Jesus therefore Jesus Walks. Simple.)

Mick Schumacher – Team: Uralkali Haas F1 – Number: 47

Remember the Name – Fort Minor (Mick has a lot to live up to but seems determined to earn recognition from his own success.)

George Russell – Team: Williams Racing – Number: 63

Higher (feat. Flo Rida) – The Saturdays (The Saturdays for Mr. Saturday. There’s a lot of determination to do better to the point that George is out performing his car.)

Nikita Mazepin – Team: Uralkali Haas F1 – Number: 9

Rasputin – Boney M (This is a song that no one takes seriously about a Russian man that no one takes seriously for a Russian driver that no one takes seriously either. The song is still a bop though.)

Nicholas Latifi – Team: Williams Racing – Number: 6

Count on Me – Bruno Mars (Probably the least likely person to offend anyone…ever and if he did he’d apologise profusely for it.)
