Pokémon Day!

Welcome, trainers of all ages to Our Muchness Guide’s celebration of Pokémon Day! Today is the day that the Pokémon Company has chosen to mark the 25th anniversary of Pokémon with a Post Malone virtual concert you never saw coming and the world will be watching from midnight (GMT) on YouTube, Twitch and many more platforms. For those of you with a Switch and Pokémon Sword/ Shield like me (Emma), there may be a gift floating about for you to collect to celebrate the occasion just have a look online. Whether you prefer generation 1, generation 8 or any generation in between, today is the day we celebrate the magical world of Pokémon! Niamh and I have been fans since there was 151 Pokémon to catch and, with 932 Pokémon to choose from now, it’s pretty clear Pokemon has grown along with us and, surely, we have some favourites and some memories to share. Whether you started with Gen 1 or with Twilight Wings, welcome to our Pokémon superpost so let’s catch ‘em all, shall we?

Who is your favourite Pokémon? (Choose only one!)

E: Arcanine – it has been my favourite for years and always is a part of my team in games. My Arcanines are always called Kev1n (regardless of gender) and I generally pick the game version that has Growlithe and Arcanine in it rather than what legendary is in the game and, so far, that’s worked pretty well for me.

N: Ever since I saw this Pokémon in the anime for the first time I have loved it with all my heart, to the point I always have to have at least a male and a female in each of the games it is in! That Pokémon is… Marill!

You must challenge the Elite Four, what six Pokémon are in your team?

E: Arcanine, Venasaur, Corviknight, Luxray, Greninja and Gengar.

N: My Emerald team for sure! Swampert, Manectric, Salamence, Gardevoir, Torkoal and Slaking.

P.S. you can make and download your own Pokémon trainer cards here!

If you were a gym leader, what Pokémon type would you choose and who would be your final Pokémon?

E: Electric. Luxray is by far my favourite Electric type so it would have to be my final Pokémon. Besides, look at Luxray and tell me it doesn’t look like a BAMF.

N: Water. I’m a massive sucker for Water type Pokemon so, for that reason I’d be holding down the fort at a Water type based gym! Final Pokemon of choice? Has to be Swampert. Swampert is such a beast! If you think grass type Pokemon is its weakness think again as, Swampert can learn Ice moves to counteract its weakness!

Which Pokémon do you choose: Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Charmander?

E: Bulbasaur! Everyone always picked Charmander and Squirtle, so I decided to pick Bulbasaur every time because someone needed to love the plant frog.

N: As stated before I’m a Water baby, so Squirtle all the way! Cute and adorable before evolving into a Boss level badass.

What is your favourite Pokémon generation, if you have one?

E: I don’t really have a favourite generation. Every one of them has their strengths and weaknesses and they’re all good in their own ways.

N: As Emma has said each generation has their strengths and weaknesses but, in terms of the games Gen III will always rule over the others for me. Solid game choices which lead to buying all five! Honorable mention goes to Gen VI!

Your favourite Legendary Pokémon?

E: My favourite roaming legendary is Raikou and my favourite standard legendary is probably Solgaleo for that unusual typing.

N: My all time favourite legendary is Suicune. So pretty and just yass!!!

Your favourite Pokémon starter(s) out of all the generations?

E: Oshawott because the anime gave him such an amazing personality or Froakie because Greninja is a badass.

N: If you haven’t already guessed: Mudkip. It is such a little cutey before it evolves into a badass! Or, Cyndaquil just for its personality.

We took a quiz and got Pokémon jobs, what job did you get and, be honest, are you happy with your job?

E: I got Pokémon Professor so I’m very happy! I’d love to give kids their first Pokémon and Pokédex and it would be fascinating to study Pokémon to try and understand them better. I’m not much of a battler, I tend to pick a team I like, that usually includes my starter, and go through the whole game with them so being a Professor suits me just fine.

N: I got a Pokemon Nurse! Upon reading the description on the character, mannerism and description I understand why I got that job. But, not going to lie I was a bit disappointed! I wanted to be the Pokemon Daycare Lady!

What is your favourite region in Pokémon?

E: For me, Kalos is my favourite region. It was so European and I loved that about it and I loved wandering around Lumiose City. The cities in the Kalos region were unique in design and it was also the setting for the best of the later generation TV series, Pokémon XY.

N: Surprise, surprise with my favourite generation influencing my favourite region! Sinnoh region all the way for me.

Who is your favourite Pokémon trainer, breeder or co-ordinator?

E: I have no specific reason why but I always loved Dawn. It probably has something to do with the fact that she always says “no need to worry.”

N: It has to be May. She did have a few over dramatic moments but I still love her to bits!

Who is your favourite Pokémon adult? (e.g professors, gym leaders, parents, etc.)

E: The Champion of the Sinnoh region, Cynthia, without any doubt. She is a badass and there are no frills just because she is a girl. Cynthia and her Garchomp will eat you alive if you aren’t careful. Leon, the Galarian Champion, comes in a close second though.

N: Cinnabar Island gym leader Blaine! Even though I’m primarily a Water girl I loved seeing strong fire Pokemon from the OG 151 list shine!

Which travel companions did you like most as a group?

E: It’s always going to be the OG squad for me but Clemont and Bonnie were a fabulous pair of travelling companions.

N: You have to go with the original group! Everyone else comes in second place.

One episode of Pokémon you will never forget?

E: Season 3 Episode 18: Charizard’s Burning Ambitions – the episode that Ash leaves his Charizard. There were tears when I watched that episode.

N: Season1 Episode 11: Charmander: The Stray Pokemon – I’m not crying thinking about it, you are! Dedication, loyalty and just *cries*. Can we also take a moment to smile that Em and I picked the beginning and end of the same Pokemon’s journey?

(E: I’m not sobbing you are!)

Your favourite Pokémon movie?

E: Pokémon Heroes: The Movie. I still have it on DVD, I like it that much.

N: Pokemon The Movie 2000. I can still play Lugia’s song on Tin Whistle thanks to this movie!

Favourite Theme Song?

E:

N:

Favourite Pokémon game?

E: Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver. The first Pokémon game I really made a good attempt at and having my Pokémon following me and being able to interact with them was amazing.

N: Pokemon Sapphire. It had my favourite legendary out of that and Ruby. It was the first game with Pokémon contests and my favourite region for catching epic Pokémon!

Well that’s all trainers! We were so excited to share all our favourite things about Pokémon with you and we really hope you enjoyed our Pokémon Superpost but without mentioning Pikachu or Eevee is it really a Pokémon post? Well, it is now! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to watch a Pokémon Movie or ten. I’m sure we’ll be talking about Pokémon again soon as the journey continues!
