‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go?’ Or The Mindset of ‘Someday I’ll Have This!’

Such an interesting title for a rather simple concept! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, my mind is drawn to the countless music playlists that flood the internet every February in the run up to making people feel that “love is in the air”. But for this year I decided to put together a fun little number made up of two different love stories… the third type is made by those in relationships via their memories and songs that are unique to each couple so we’ll keep that one secret as everyone is different. You might be thinking where did you get the idea? Simple from the One Direction song ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go?’ and Taylor Swift secret hidden message in her song ‘Love Story’ – “Someday I’ll Have This”. So, for today’s playlists dear readers you have two options. Will you join Playlist 1 and join the ’Where Do Broken Hearts Go?’ company. Or, will you join the ‘Someday I’ll Have This’ mindset? Each playlist contains ten songs that came out this year or last year.

**Disclaimer: I would like to note that music is only one form of therapy that can help you through everyday life and won’t heal everything.**

“Where Do Broken Hearts Go?” Playlist

First up, we have the playlist for those who just need a good bop to the age old question “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?” They heal eventually but, sometimes they need a little help along the way! That’s where these amazing songs come into play! The artists here include some of my very favourite Homegrown Heroes and some International Artist’s that I adore too. You can find the playlist HERE but let’s take a closer look at the choices.

‘Dear Patience’ Niall Horan – One of the most underrated songs on Niall’s ‘Heartbreak Weather’ album in my opinion. ‘Dear Patience’ will make you stop and evaluate the way in which you either fall head over heels too fast or if you are a cautious little bunny. I also like the way in which Niall Horan just sits down and has a conversation with his patience during this song.

‘I’m Lonely’ Luz – From the very first time hearing this one to the last time I heard it… this song still gives me all of the feels! I like to think, when it comes to heartache songs, they act as both confessions of our innermost thoughts and the first step of healing. ‘I’m Lonely’ brings the listener on a journey of realisation and honestly it’s the first one I listen to on this playlist every time.

‘Skin’ Sabrina Carpenter – The song of all songs when it comes to anyone who has had to block out an ex after a break up who keeps trying to get under your skin to either upset you or get back together. This is the reminder to ignore all the haters you come across in life and know that you are so much stronger than they are once; you don’t let them in!

’You Broke Me First’ Tate McRae – Personally, this is the song I wish I had in my life a few years ago. It holds the exact words that I would have loved to have said to someone to articulate exactly how I was feeling at the time. A song to just soak up the lyrics and to sing (scream) along to if you need to, to help you heal.

‘Heather’ Conan Gray – I’m going to let you all in on a massive secret: Conan Gray has been a lifeline for me musically in the past year. So, when it comes to my own personal question of “Where do Broken Hearts go?” I go to Conan’s album, it is my musical therapy. ‘Heather’ is just the tip of the iceberg for me everytime. Warning to anyone who is feeling second best, make sure the tissues are close to you for this one.

’Break My Heart’ Dua Lipa – The first of the bops on our list! You always need a song that you can scream and dance to when no one is watching. ‘Break My Heart’ provides both and you might just have to remind yourself that this is the stage where you remember you don’t need ‘That Person’ in your life to be happy!

‘Came To An End’ EVOKE – The second song that is an absolute bop on our playlist is ‘Came To An End’. This song is another great example that even though a relationship is over, you don’t have to be down in the dumps about it with sad music or philosophical lyrics; you can have a dance and a laugh while coming to terms with the fact that the relationship is now over!

‘Moral Of The Story’ Ashe, Niall Horan – The first of the suprise music gems of 2020 for me. This song is the song you need to listen to to remind yourself with each relationship there are lessons learned and memories gained.. “And that’s the moral of the story!”

‘Hailey’ WRENN – I cannot lie about this one, I found it thanks to Tik Tok and gosh does it strike a chord to my heart every single time I hear it! This one is especially for those who were cheated on in relationships. Just listen to it, trust me… WRENN captures her own heartbreak so brutally that you’ll live through it with her everytime you listen to it!

‘Hate That About You’ Rival, Myah Marie – The 2021 version and let’s be real the adult version of ‘7 Things I Hate About You’ by Miley Cyrus. Personally, give me Miley’s song any day but this song is a bop! ‘Hate That About You’ is all about coming to terms with the idea that you once may have been lovers but now you’re going to have to get over the fact that they won’t be there for all the important and little things in your life. Spoiler alert: you can get over them and something better is out there.

‘Someday I’ll Have This’ Playlist

Now, onto the playlist that is filled with hope, all of the best kind of tension and the songs that make your head fill with daydreams. A number of the songs on this playlist are upbeat and you will want to dance around your room with a hairbrush but some are incredibly delicate in design that sometimes all you can do is smile with the lyrics. Just like the last playlist the songs on this playlist are made up of a mix of my favourite Irish Homegrown Artists and International Artists! You can listen to the playlist HERE but let’s take a closer look at the choices.

‘Stupid Love’ Lady Gaga – It’s been a few years since I had Lady Gaga on my playlist when it comes to love. 2020 saw her release her absolute banger ‘Stupid Love’ and for the number one reason of I love dancing around the room, the car etc. to this one… it made the list! And let’s be real sometimes the best kind of love can be described as ‘Stupid Love’.

‘Head & Heart (feat. MNEK)’ Joel Corry, MNEK – Blame TodayFM for this one… This song exploded onto the airwaves in July and we’re still hearing it on the daily via the radio. But, hear me out for this one. I want you to listen past the catchy beat and the ‘Bum bum bum da bum bum…’ and ‘Oh My God, Oh My God’ lyrics. Listen to the other lyrics and then listen to the song as a whole. It truly captures the feelings of your crush on that ‘special someone’ perfectly.

‘She Wins, I Lose’ Ryan Mack – A song that you are going to be dancing to as soon as the beat begins.’She Wins, I Lose’ is my favourite Ryan Mack song to date and this song acts as the beginning of the ‘Someday I’ll Have This’ Playlist timeline. We always say “you will find love when you least expect it or when you’re not looking for it” and this song is the perfect example of this!

‘Older’ Lea Heart – My favourite new artist I found last year! Lea Heart’s song ‘Older’ is the song that I chose first for this playlist. You cannot help but smile when you listen to the story that is told in the lyrics. You are going to want the love that Lea describes so perfectly! Also the tone of Lea’s voice in this one is going to have you laughing and smile along with her as she brings you through the song with her.

‘Physical’ Dua Lipa – Remember the best kind of tension I mentioned? Well ‘Physical’ sums up perfectly the tension we all look for in a relationship. It’s also another song on the playlist that you can’t help but dance around to and sing along as well. Dua has a way with lyrics when it comes to songs about relationships but for the theme at hand… I like to think the majority of people aim for a “Physical” moment at the beginning of a new relationship and beyond.

‘Wherever You Are’ Kodaline – When thinking about the idea behind ‘Someday I’ll Have This,’ Kodaline’s ‘Wherever You Are’ came to mind quiet quickly. It is such a simple idea for a song but it truly is lovely. As we all know, there is nowhere in the world we wouldn’t be willing to travel to to be with the ones we love.

‘Wildflower’ 5 Seconds of Summer – I hate to break it to the doubters but 5 Seconds of Summer have featured on all of my February/Valentine’s Playlists since 2014. 5 Seconds of Summer dropped their fourth Album ‘CALM’ back in March and you know one of those masterpieces had to end up on this list! I could have chosen a number of different songs but ‘Wildflower’ is my song. It is currently my ‘Someday I’ll Have This’ moment song and, honestly, that is all I care to admit to.

‘True Love Waits’ The Coronas – When it comes to love, relationships and daydreaming on the notion of love, you need to have The Coronas on your playlist. This time round ‘True Love Waits’ is what we are striving for. If you haven’t heard ‘True Love Waits’ yet, make sure you give it a listen because I always feel the guys can always sum up my feelings in my relationships better than I can. At this rate, it is safe to say The Coronas are THE top tier Irish band for love songs!

‘Willow’ Taylor Swift – Is anyone surprised that Ms. Taylor made it onto the list? 2020 saw two albums being dropped. Due to that fact, you might be asking yourself “Why Willow?” To which I answer “Have you listened carefully to the lyrics?” Taylor Swift has such a unique and enchanting way of story-telling in her music. For ‘Willow’ I adore the visual and the choice of lyrics. I am also a massive fan of the music video.

‘Champagne Butterflies’ Wild Youth – Amongst the duo here at Our Muchness Guide this song has been dubbed Emma’s but it made Niamh’s list because… I live for my own ‘Champagne Butterflies’ moments. The song captures the awkward and exciting feelings at the beginning of a relationship when all you want to do is be near the person and talk to them. It is also a bop that you can’t help but dance to from the very beginning of the song.
