July Monthly Round Up

Hello hello dear readers! July is FINALLY over and boy did it fly! We are all birthday-ed out here (well Niamh is anyway). Work is back with a vengeance. Many many hours, lots of customers and we are missing the majority of the nice weather working indoors! Us here at Our Muchness Guide had a reunion for a few days with lots of movies watched and one of us battled a fairly nasty bout of Laryngitis! We are so happy July is finally over! We are looking forward to Autumn hitting in full swing! Hot Chocolate, coloured leaves and dark evenings! But, until then let’s talk through the best of July!

Book of the Month

N: Hunger Games. It really wasn’t what I was expecting when I heard Suzanne was adding to the Hunger Game World but, I’m slowly making my way through it! Not gonna lie, I am only a few chapters in but, it is incredibly interesting so far! I’ll keep you all posted!

E: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – an old favourite of mine that I re-read and fell in love with again. I find it amazing that it draws from so many mythologies and C.S Lewis’ personal experiences and took 10 years to write.

TV Picks

N: The second series of The Umbrella Academy dropped on July 31st! I adore that series to be honest. My sister also got the entire family into The Haunting of Hill House. We were all hooked.

E: Avatar: The Last Airbender – I just started a complete watch through and, for a kid’s TV show, it touches on vastly complex topics and has stunning visuals and animation alongside excellent voice acting from (at the time) a very young cast.

Movie Picks

Good Movie Recommendations:

N: I enjoyed Sofia Carson’s new Netflix’s movie ‘Feel The Beat’. It was a little bit cheesy but, overall, was a better movie then I thought it would be.

E: Knives Out – the funny bit about this is that I guessed who the guilty party was because I misheard a line in the film and had to go back and rewatch it. It is a really well done, well thought out movie and there is an immense amount of detail.

Cheesy Movie Recommendations:

N: The Kissing Booth movies! Oh my gosh July saw me watch number 1&2 in the space of a day! You guys…. The cheese is through the roof and it is safe to report that as always myself and Em have different favourite moments etc.

E: Going to have to agree with Niamh on this. The Kissing Booth 1 & 2 are cheesy, cringey goodness and Jacob Elordi is in there too. Nice.

Gaming Picks

N: Unfortunately my spare time isn’t really my own at the moment so, I haven’t been gaming but, in August I am going to give a phone game app a try!

E: Spyro Reignited Trilogy – I think I’ll always love the little purple dragon but I love him more in HD. These games are frustrating at times but so much fun.

Music:

Single:

N: Moncrieff ‘PlayLoud’ … Just YAASSS Moncreiff! New Sound. New Vibe and I am here for it. Forget all you have known about Moncrieff before now and just listen to ‘PlayLoud’ for what it is; a fun track!

E: Dermot Kennedy ‘Giants (Guitar)’ – it’s Dermot with a guitar and a beautiful song and simplicity at its finest. Really, it’s my ghost writing this post right now, I died when I heard this version of Giants. Oh and side note here: Paul Mescal and Dermot Kennedy singing Giants…. beautiful. Loved it.

Album/EP:

N: Album: The Coronas ‘True Love Waits’ . The Coronas never ever disappoint! I have had the album on repeat in work since it came out and bopping away with earphones is a thing at the moment too in my down time.

EP: The Academic ‘Act My Age’. The Academic came back with a bang in July. If you haven’t heard the EP out yet, please check it out!

E: True Love Waits – The Coronas – very much in love with what The Coronas have created with this album. They never disappoint.

Favourite thing about July:

N: The weather has been pretty special! But the icing on the cake was during my eight days of being off work when ill; I spent for a lot of hours asleep and watching epically cheesy movies.

E: All the lovely people (customers) who have welcomed me back to the post office. Hi!!!! And all the lovely new customers who’ve seen me and said hi too. Some people are so lovely, other people are just surprised XD If you know, you know.

Favourite Item of the Month:

N: Jeffree Star ‘Cremated’ Palette! My siblings got me it for my birthday and I swear you guys, I have worn eye makeup so much more this month than in the past year! The dark colours, the light and all of the glitter… I am in love with it!

E: My calculator. For some unknown reason, someone thought giving me a job where quick mental arithmetic is required was a good idea. I will point out that I have been and always will be terrible at maths. If I didn’t have my calculator I would be in biiiiiiiig trouble.

Moment of the Month:

N: Baby Yoda arriving in work from Emma! It had to be a highlight during a hectic week! He is also a bobblehead pop vinyl and has his cup of food aka coffee for me. I loved opening it.

E: Trying to organise delivery of said baby yoda from Tullamore. I got a call from the delivery driver (while I was on break in the post office) saying “hi, is this Niamh?” which led to me saying yes and that I was in Castlecomer Discovery Park and my family wasn’t home. Props to the delivery driver he went to the park and dropped The Child off even though he was a bit behind schedule.

Your Quote of the Month:

N: “As long as you know who you are and what makes you happy, it doesn’t matter how others see you”

E: “Someone loves us all” – from Filling Station by Elizabeth Bishop

Three things you are most excited about for August:

N: Catching Up With Family. Days off with friends and new music! Some exciting bits in the making and I cannot wait for them to drop!

E: 1. Really getting stuck into some more movies to review for all you lovely people; it’s a lot of fun for me to review movies and I’m taking recommendations if you want to send them my way. 2. A few more days off, I hope. 3. Something to make life more interesting, maybe? Whatever happens, August is going to be fun, I just have a good feeling about it.
