February 2020 – Monthly Round Up

February is out of here! I honestly think no one can be as glad that February is over, as much as Niamh. We are happy to report Niamh isn’t dead in a corner somewhere after an insane Midterm in work and no one got hit with an apple! Another year without a fun Ancient Greek marriage proposal missing… someday eh? February saw a lot of family time, working and trying to keep on top of our New Year’s Resolutions. We are hoping March brings friend reunions and a little bit of down time!

Book of the month

E: Stardust by Neil Gaiman –  It’s probably better known for its film adaptation, which I also love, but the book is just that little bit different from the movie but still as much fun with just as much adventure.

N: Like every February since it can out it has to be ‘Fallen in Love’ by Lauren Kate. It gets read multiple times throughout February every year.

TV Show Picks

E: Have to say I did really enjoy what Niamh and I got to watch of October Faction and I can’t wait to see the rest of the show definitely the right mix of the supernatural and violence for me.

N: Netflix was the way to go this month. Currently I am enjoying Locke and Key which is based on a comic book. Also I would recommend October Faction, myself and Emma started this one together at the beginning of the month.

Movie Picks

Good Movie Recommendation:

E:  Regardless of what anyone says, I enjoyed Aquaman and I think it’s genuinely entertaining and some of the scenes and their shot compositions are amazing. It may not be a new new movie but I saw it for the first time this month so here it is.

N: The new Emma movie based on Jane Austen’s novel of the same name was rather good! You might see a lack of love for Birds of Prey but, this is due to waiting to go see it with Emma. Let’s hope we get to see it in March!

Cheesy Bad Movie Recommendation:

E: Blood and Chocolate – Nope. Can’t even deal with that movie. Don’t do it. Save yourself the confusion and the disinterest in the protagonists that you’re meant to be invested in. This is one of those rare occasions that I almost didn’t finish watching a movie.

N: To All the Boys I’ve Loved before ps. I still Love You! Cringe, cringe and cringe but, I adored it!

Gaming Picks

E: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I’ve always loved the LoZ series and I’ve played most of the games but Twilight Princess has always been my favourite because of Midna. Trust me, you don’t need a voice actor when you can hear the eyerolls in the dialogue as you read it. Plus, the music that constantly runs behind this game, which I can usually tune out, is truly beautiful my personal opinion and I love Midna’s Lament and The Light Spirits’ Elegy.

N: Unless an odd game of Mario Kart or FIFA; I didn’t game much this month.

Music

Single of the Month

E: Instant History – Biffy Clyro – It’s always so good to have Biffy back \(^.^)/

N: ‘No Judgement’ – Niall Horan. Right guys, unless you have been living under a rock, you know I have been in love with this song since it came out. It’s my number one Nialler song of all time and, honestly, I think the fun music video added to how much I adore it. If you haven’t seen the music video yet click here and enjoy the song in all its glory!

Album/EP of the Month

E: Birds of Prey: The Album – Various Artists. Love that the insanity of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has a soundtrack that is just as crazy and entertaining as I’m sure the movie is.

N: ‘Loving Everywhere I Go’ – Hudson Taylor. I am delighted for Alfie and Harry when it comes to this album. Not only does it include some fan favourites from the past two years; it has a number of new songs too. I’ll be looking at the album more in depth next week after seeing Hudson Taylor in Portlaoise but, for now, I’d urge everyone to give the album a listen!

Favourite Thing About February

E: The general peace and quiet of the month. February is always quiet and it’s nice to get a break before all the craziness of the year really kicks in.

N:This year? The snow! We were snowed in for four days. It was insane and amazing. Frodo (the puppy) adored playing in the snow for the first time.

Favourite Item of the Month

E: My new Jeffree Star Cosmetics BloodLust palette that I haven’t even seen yet. Niamh was amazing enough to buy it for me and I actually cannot wait to get my hands on it! I may not look it but I do love my make-up.

N: My Wild Youth Hoodie. It is cosy and fits amazingly. Shout out to Em and Conor for making sure I got one!

Event of the Month?

E: February was a very quiet month for me, so I have no events to mention this month. Hopefully that will change for March, I’m slowly going mad at home. Save Me!

N: I went to a screening of a recording of the West End production of Kinky Boots with my mam, sister and adopted sister (at this stage). It was incredible! I cannot wait to see what comes to IMC next!

Moment of the Month

E: Being half awake and being rang by Niamh because “He dropped the song titles.” No context just he…Cue me confused af. Turns out Niall Horan had dropped song titles in a video filled with a butt load of references that I didn’t get (thanks for the extra confusion). The upside: I found all of the song titles in the “Nice To Meet Ya” music video. Sidenote: Niall Horan can’t wink and he should never try doing it again… it’s creepy.

N: Ringing Emma after Niall Horan dropped his teaser album video with the song titles. I don’t think anyone wants details but, to say I am excited and hella proud is an understatement!

Your Quote of the Month

E: “Opinions don’t affect facts. But facts should affect opinions, and do, if you’re rational” – Ricky Gervais

N: “If you have the words, there’s always a chance that you’ll find the way” – Seamus Heaney.

Three things you are most excited about for March?

N: Heartbreak Weather, Heartbreak Weather oh, and did I mention Heartbreak Weather? I honestly think I am ready for this new era of Nialler’s music… but, only time will tell! Apart from a Niall Horan filled month, my Irish few bits for the blog. Keep you eyes peeled!

E: Did Niamh mention Heartbreak Weather? No? This is me, not necessarily a fan of Niall Horan, saying that I’m genuinely looking forward to hearing “Heartbreak Weather” because, when I do, I get to pick it apart song by song and say exactly what I think about the whole thing and every song on it and then publish it! *insert evil laughter* I will give you all the real tea about the album and there’s no way I’m holding back on this one (score will be out of 100. Be afraid Horan, be very afraid). There is also a high chance that Niamh may not speak to me for a while after it. #SorryNotSorry (also we all already know that Niamh is going to love this album, flaws and all, because it’s Niall Horan *insert Niamh’s heart eyes face any time someone mentions Niall here*.)
