My Year in Music – Jan 2020

So for the past month, I’ve chosen a song a day. Almost like keeping a diary but not quite as private or personal. Maybe it was the first song I heard that day, maybe it was the song that matched my mood or maybe it was new music to me that I loved but, for whatever reason, they ended up in my diary and so they ended up on my January playlists on YouTube and Spotify. Just be grateful I didn’t make you listen to the “Into the Unknown” Duet 31 times in a row (I’m not joking, it’s amazing). If I manage to keep this up for a whole year, you’ll probably see a lot of artists reappearing but hopefully I won’t be using the same songs twice. Challenge accepted.

Jan 1: There’s Nothing Holding Me Back – Shawn Mendes

Jan 2: Lights Up – Harry Styles

Jan 3: Used To Love – Martin Garrix & Dean Lewis

Jan 4: Hollywood – Lewis Capaldi (Don’t mind me, I’m just enjoying my favourite Scotsman’s bops)

Jan 5: Circles – Post Malone

Jan 6: everything i wanted – Billie Eilish

Jan 7: Orphans – Coldplay

Jan 8: Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus

Jan 9: Shotgun – George Ezra

Jan 10: Steal My Girl – One Direction (I know I’m shocked too, believe me.)

Jan 11: Teeth – 5sos (This song is epic and I’m actually going to see these guys now XD)

Jan 12: Ring – Selena Gomez (Her entire album is just amazing. Yaaaasss Queen Sel. Welcome back!)

Jan 13: Loca – Shakira

Jan 14: Gimme More – Britney Spears

Jan 15: Without Me – Halsey

Jan 16: Nice To Meet Ya – Niall Horan (It’s about time this appeared on the list considering it’s been haunting me since it was released! Make. It. Stop. PLEASE!!!!!)

Jan 17: Spitfire – The Prodigy (If you love The Prodigy check out Music for a Jilted Generation in aid of Pieta House on March 20th in Opium in Dublin. Tickets are on sale now on Eventbrite! This one is for my favourite classic dance track loving DJ, Dec Pierce though.)

Jan 18: Love That Sound – Somebody’s Child

Jan 19: Into You – Ariana Grande

Jan 20: Teenagers – My Chemical Romance (Who doesn’t like a little 00s punk to shake things up)

Jan 21: Love Runs Out – One Republic (Hi Aoife, you inspired this choice!)

Jan 22: Happier – Marshmello

Jan 23: Pencil Full of Lead – Paolo Nutini (Ah, happy song ^,^ I love Sunny Side Up as a whole)

Jan 24: Haunted – The Coronas (Is any one surprised? Be honest…)

Jan 25: Close – Wild Youth (It would be remiss of me to ignore Wild Youth on their EP’s birthday. Happy 1st birthday to The Last Goodbye – EP! Wait very (im)patiently for new music.)

Jan 26: Red Right Hand – Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Thank you to Ed Smith for playing it on his Soundtrack Songs of Praise! I love this song and it would never have crossed my mind if he hadn’t played it. By order of the Peaky Blinders, of course.)

Jan 27: All the Stars – Kendrick Lamar (I got my mam to sit down and watch Black Panther for the first time. I just happened to love the movie so much that I willingly watched it again. That soundtrack though!)

Jan 28: Love is Fire – Freya Ridings

Jan 29: Despacito- Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, Justin Bieber (Hit that button Iano!)

Jan 30: Riptide – Vance Joy

Jan 31: What A Man Gotta Do – Jonas Brothers (What a girl gotta do to get this song unstuck from my head? Lord, it is good to have the JoBros back and they’re in the 3 Arena tonight!)

Big thank you to the presenters of Today FM who supplied quite a lot of my daily choices: Ferg D’Arcy, Dec Pierce, Ed Smith, Mairead Ronan, Dermot and Dave and Ian Dempsey! Ye are only the best company ❤ Check the links in the opening paragraph or below to have a listen and I’ll see you next month. Peace, E. P.S. send me your recommendations on Twitter or Insta and who knows your favourite song, your band or your favourite DJ might end up on my February list.
